Hello! I’m Lauren Durrer and the three most important roles in my life are being a wife, mother, and follower of Jesus. I also happen to be passionate about birth and helping women experience it in a meaningful and beautiful way. This is what lead me to become a birth doula, certified Body Ready Method pro®, and childbirth educator. Preparing women for and supporting them through birth is a privilege and an honor!
My Philosophy
Birth matters. Birth has such significant implications for mom and baby - in the best way possible. It’s the start of a precious new life and the foundation from which a woman begins her parenting journey. A woman’s birth story almost always carries a strong emotional tie and in my roles, my goal is to help make your birth story a positive one. Too often women are told that birth is something they have to get through, something that stands between them and their baby. But birth is not an obstacle, it’s an important journey for mom and baby. Birth can set the stage for a thriving child and empower a woman to appreciate her capabilities.
Birth goals are as personal as the parenting styles we choose. Birth is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor and shame should never be attached to any informed choice a woman makes. My desires are to see women learn about their labor and birth choices, use that knowledge to decide what is best for them and their children, and be supported in meeting their individual birth goals. That is when babies thrive, and when women can look back on their birth story and smile.
Every birth is a miracle and every birth is beautiful. I pray you are encouraged to know that birth, however it unfolds, can be an amazing experience. And I hope I get the opportunity to support you through it!
Fun Facts About Me
I met my husband, Evan, volunteering at our local church. We met and were married in less than a year. When you know, you know!
I gave birth to both of our children at home. Some people think I’m strong for having done it and some people think I’m crazy, but I know I’m neither of those things. Home birth was a great fit for our family and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.
Evan is an amazing chiropractor and owns Atlas Chiropractic in Charlottesville, VA. I had never been adjusted until I met him and wow, I had no idea what I was missing!
I’m a sucker for Hallmark movies. They are predictable and happy, and who doesn’t need more of that in their life?!
I love sports. There isn’t much better than the fours Fs - watching football with family and friends in the Fall.
My favorite thing is a slow morning. Nothing to stress over or rush through, the freedom of no agenda, lots of hot coffee - what’s not to love?
